Course Overview

Want to get into competition shooting but hate feeling like the "New Guy"?  Or not sure where to start?  You will be learning to be efficient with your movements and get shot on target FAST.  This class is built for the competition shooter or anyone wanting to get into competitive shooting sports. You will learn the ins and outs of the pistol shooting sports and leave the class feeling comfortable walking up the line at your next match.

You will leave this class with a copy of the drills we worked on throughout the day and the knowledge of what you need to work on to become a better shooter. 

Class Size: 16 Student Maximum
Prerequisites: None
LESSONS
  • Drawing the pistol.
  • Aiming quickly, learning your acceptable sight picture.
  • Trigger control.
  • Recoil control.
  • Speed and emergency reloads.
  • Multiple shots and multiple targets.
  • Shooting on the move, moving and shooting.
  • Skill building drills.

Gear list

MANDATORY
  • Semi Auto pistol.
  • At least 3 mags.  (Need to be able to carry 40 rounds to the line at one time)
  • Proper holster and mag pouches (must cover the trigger guard and retain mags when moving)
  • Vest or open shirt for IDPA scenarios. 
  • 300-400 rounds of ammo.
  • Note taking material.
  • Food and drink for a day of training.
  • Dress for the weather. (Rain or shine).
  • An open mind with good attitude.

About the Instructor

Jacob W. He has a long and vast career in Law Enforcement from 911 dispatch, Police Officer, and now Corrections Officer. He is a certified NRA firearms instructor, avid hunter, certified Glock armorer, and active competitive shooter. He competes in several shooting disciplines across the USA, and holds a MASTER classification in the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA). - Jacob is a true professional, a forever continuing student, and a humble friend of Marksmanship Training Center.
