Course Overview
Minimum skill level requirement: None
Class Size: 20 Student Maximum
Hand Loading Fundamentals for Long Range Marksmanship
This course will provide the knowledge and techniques for students to build match grade ammunition. Students will be able to reproduce the techniques taught in this class to produce match grade center fire ammunition which performs better than factory match grade ammunition. We will demonstrate the equipment and techniques that typically produce ½ moa or better results and single digit muzzle velocity standard deviations across a number of different cartridges.
There are many different processes and tools that can be used to build precision rifle ammunition. This class will not explore all the different approaches and equipment out there. Instead, we will focus on equipment we know works well and load development processes we know produces results. In this way we keep the students focused on what we know to be successful in lieu of overwhelming the student with every different option they could explore.
This class will arm the student with knowledge to purchase hand loading equipment, how to use the equipment, and processes to build precision rifle cartridges and optimized hand loads.
Topics Covered In This Class:
Who Should Attend:
The ideal student is one who is just getting into precision rifle hand loading or has some equipment/experience already but is not getting the result they want. Equipment and techniques used in this class are appropriate for a broad range of cartridges; however, most class examples will use 6mm, 6.5mm, 223/556 and 308.
Required Equipment:
Method of instruction will be indoor lecture supported with hand outs and PPT slides and equipment demonstration. Two-way discussion and question asking is encouraged. Equipment required for this class is nothing more than note taking gear and an open mind to learn. If you have a rifle you want to handload for, we ask you bring three fired cases and three unfired cases. This is not a requirement but will allow you to immediately apply some of the learnings in this class.
Crimping, Belted cartridges, and wild cat reloading is not within the scope of this one-day course.
Annealing and neck turning will be touched on for student awareness, but not covered in depth
