What is the MTC Standard?
The MTC Handgun and Carbine Standards are simply a demonstration of competency. A series of timed courses of fire that test fundamentals of marksmanship, safety, reloads and malfunction clearance. Shooters who achieve a passing score meet the standard and are “patched”.
Students are introduced to the standards at the completion of Advanced Handgun HG2 and Advanced Carbine C2. The applicable standard will be run at the beginning of all tactics courses and meeting the standard is required to continue.
Why is passing the MTC Standard required for Tactics Courses?
At MTC we believe in the process. Advancing to tactics without a solid base in fundamentals is detrimental to your training evolution and can be dangerous to you and those around you. To put it simply, you should be able to run your gun on a subconscious level, so you can focus on new material, decision making and the application of tactics.
What if I don’t pass the Standard at the completion of HG2 or C2?
It is not expected for every student to pass the standard at the completion of the Advanced courses, but you will be scored and have a goal to work on. You will be given all you need to meet the standard on your next testing opportunity. Being “patched” is not a requirement for HG3 or C3 (low light), but you will be given another opportunity to pass during these courses. If you have not been “patched” and the Director of Training believes you have the ability to pass, you may sign up for Tactics classes, but you will be expected to pass at the beginning of the course.
